Running along the Macmillan Way · 15 August 2020

At Macmillan, we will move mountains to help people with cancer live life as fully as they can. We’re doing whatever it takes. But without your help we can’t support everyone who needs us. To donate, volunteer, raise money or campaign with us, call 0300 1000 200 or visit macmillan.org.uk

Story

During Lockdown last summer (2020) I discovered the Macmillan Way, which runs alongside the river Glen, just a couple of miles from our home in south Lincolnshire. I began running along it towards Spalding in sections (of 5 to 15 miles at a time) for the joy of discovering new paths, beautiful countryside and getting out for some fresh air. It wasn't long before I realised that the Macmillan Way (http://www.macmillanway.org/) in fact begins in Boston on the east coast of England and runs all the way down to Abbotsbury in Dorset on the south coast, connecting many footpaths along the way through beautiful English countryside. Not only that, those who travel along it are encouraged to raise money for the wonderful Macmillan Cancer Support charity.

A number of close friends and many people who I support in my role as a church Assistant Pastor have been and continue to be helped by Macmillan's amazing work, so it was without hesitation that I decided to combine the opportunity to raise money for Macmillan and the exciting dream of running the entire length of the Macmillan Way. Last summer I ran from Boston to Baston in Lincolnshire (near where I live). This summer I have picked up where I left off and am aiming to get another 50 miles heading south west by September. One day (who knows when?!) I will make it to Dorset and maybe even complete the extra sections you can take to Barnstaple and Barmouth!

Thanks for supporting my fundraising. Macmillan Cancer Support is here to help everyone with cancer live life as fully as they can, providing physical, financial and emotional support.
