Story
Now, more than ever, students need help to pay for college. Federal and State aid can only be applied to tuition; even students who receive full financial aid still find paying for textbooks and other supplies challenging. Please help me help these deserving students at Nassau Community College.

During these two years at NCC I have grown a lot as an individual and as a student. Many people tend to look down on community colleges because “they do not have state-of-the-art instruments or huge facilities”; Although in some cases this is usually true, this is completely minimized by the level of passion that professors have for teaching, by the atmosphere of aspirations and dreams that surrounds the students, by the quality of academic and personal instruction, by the ethics and values that are promoted, etc. Certainly, NCC has given me many of the tools and skills that have made me who I am now, for which I am totally grateful.
Being a foreign student for both myself and my parents, paying for a higher education is incredibly challenging. Scholarships, like the Marathon Challenge scholarship, represent an enormous help, not only financially, but also serve as an incentive since it rewards the effort of students and motivates them to continue with their education and boost their goals and dreams.

Nassau Community College offered me a pathway to a quality education while being close to home and afforded me the chance to help my mother adjust to being a single parent. As a first-generation college student, affordability has been a pivotal concern for me in pursuit of my academic success. Nassau’s accessibility has given first-generation students like me, the ability to pursue an affordable high-quality education. Without scholarships I would be unable to continue my higher education in order to serve my community through my career ambition of being a doctor.

To me, attending Nassau Community College meant I have an opportunity to prove to myself that I can succeed in anything if I work hard to achieve my goals. Community College gives young people a chance to better their lives, regardless of their background. As a student, I felt defined by my actions and judged on my merits. When I just started at NCC, I did not have a clear idea about my future and was discouraged by my inability to figure it out. Attending NCC changed that. It has shown me that anything is within my reach and gave me the courage to undertake the studies of a bachelor’s degree for which I am now enrolled in a four-year University.
Scholarships are very important to me. Without scholarships, I would have been financially uncertain about continuing my education. Many recipients of federal financial aid, such as myself, quickly find that tuition assistance is not enough to cover the full costs of attendance at college. The availability of scholarships helps me and other students to bridge the gaps. Financial feasibility is an important consideration when considering enrolling in a senior college having graduated from community college. Scholarships are a good way to help capable students in need to fulfill their potential and pursue a higher degree.
