Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In March this year my Dad went into hospital during lockdown. Tests were inconclusive but we knew he wasn't well.
Finally, the week before the Parish Walk we found out the sad news he had bile duct cancer and it was inoperable. We were told 2 days later by the hospital that palliative care was the next step for my Dad.
On the Friday a bed opened up at the Hospice and never having been to the Hospice before I had preconceived ideas about what lay ahead. However, within 5 minutes of being there any negative thoughts I had went away by the welcome we received .
On the Saturday morning I didn't want to do the Parish Walk but my Mum convinced me that my Dad would have wanted me to take part, as he loved coming out to support me. I found the day incredibly difficult thinking about my Dad so coming into Peel I planned to finish.
As some who have visited the Hospice may know all the rooms are named after parishes of the Island and my Dad was in Bride, so I decided I would finish there to honour him. The 20 miles from Peel to Bride were the hardest I have ever walked.
From Bride we went straight to the Hospice and had a lovely 3 days with all the family gathered round my Dad sharing happy memories. None of this would have been possible without the Hospice and their caring members of staff, who went above and beyond to make sure his last days were as comfortable and dignified as possible. They couldn't have done any more for our family to help us come to terms with what was happening.
My Dad sadly passed away on Monday 21 June and I would like to raise money for Hospice, so other families can have similar support when they need it most.
