Story
Hi everyone!
So, I've been toying with the idea of doing one of these events and fundraise for a charity for a while but the timing never seemed to be completely right.
This time I decided I'd just do it and, looking at the charities I could support during the British 10K next July, Sane seemed like one of the right ones to help.
Sane (www.sane.org.uk) provides help and support to people who are struggling with mental health issues (depression, anxiety, self-harm, suicide).
Mental health is one of the biggest problems in our society nowadays: not only it affects individuals on a personal scale, but also everyone else around them and can lead, in extreme cases, to manifestations of extreme violence and death of self and/or others.
As a musician, I know all too well (and so will most of you) the struggles associated with making a living in this industry and how that can become what at times seems like an insurmountable burden. However, I think it's great to know that charities like Sane are there to help at no cost and also promoting research into advancing therapies for mental health.
My minimum fundraising target is 200GBP, and I've figured if only 40 friends donate 5GBP, I'll reach that target in no time.
In any case, the Run is only in July and how amazing would it be if we could actually turn that into 2000 or even more. Just so you have an idea of how this money can be used, 250GBP are enough to provide essential crisis support to 30 individuals. That's basically avoiding that 30 people get that step too close to the edge.
I hope you will find this cause worthy of your money. I think it's definitely worthy of the sweat and effort I'm going to put into preparing for this event and my personal goal is to complete the 10k in under 1h. But of course, the important thing is to enable Sane to help as many people as possible.
Thank you and do come and encourage me on the day. Knowing my love/hate (frequently hate) relationship with running, I know I'll need it!
