Everyone who knows me knows the devastating impact Huntington's Disease has had on my family. My Mum died in 2014 after battling with the mental and physical effects of the disease for 10 years. My Uncle passed away 3 years ago and 2 of my cousins have also been diagnosed with the disease. Scottish Huntington's Association have been a fantastic support throughout ensuring that everyone has access to all the help and support that they need.
In May 2020 I will be harnessed to the wing of a 1940's Boeing Stearman Biplane while it completes a variety of flypasts and manoeuvres, a dive from 500ft and a zoom climb with a final 'run and break' before landing! Any donations you can spare to help me meet my target will make a huge difference to help improve the quality of life of children and adults living with HD.
Huntington's Disease is a devastating neurological condition. Over the course of 15-25 years, from the first appearance of symptoms, people with the condition will lose the ability to walk, talk, eat and care for themselves.
Each child of a parent with HD has a 50% chance of inheriting the same faulty gene.
In Scotland around 1,100 people have HD with a further 5,000 estimated to be living at high genetic risk of inheriting the gene that causes it.
As yet, there is no cure.
