Story
How could you not love a Rhino? I've loved them for as long as I can remember, so I struggle to get my head around how anyone could mean them harm. I’ve always felt so much Rhino love and support out there when I run by dressed as a Rhino. So it’s all the more shocking to me that there are others in this world who would see them murdered simply for their horns.
That twisted trade in rhino horn has pushed this magnificent species to the very brink of extinction. So heartbroken by their plight and inspired by the work of Save the Rhino (www.savetherhino.org). I am doing everything I can to help my favourite animal
Firstly, I’ve written a children’s book - Matumaini, The Rhinos’ Hope. Matumaini is the lead character of the story and also the Swahili word for Hope and I’m hoping that through her adventures “Little Matu” can inspire a love of rhinos and help bring about much needed change.
Meanwhile I’ve also been doing a whole lot of running!!! All in aid of my favourite animal! To date I have run a total of 168 Marathons and Ultras and 104 of those have been run as a Rhino.
I run in Save the Rhino’s iconic rhino costume in order to help raise funds for the charity and draw attention to the plight of the species ;So my plan is to keep going and run:-
“150 MARATHONS RUN AS A RHINO”
Its always an honour to be a Rhino for a day when running in the full rhino costume and I’ve been able to enjoy so many highlights running in the costume. Like achieving GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS running as a rhino:-
“Fastest Marathon dressed as a mammal” 4:06:35 at the London Marathon 2021
“Fastest half marathon dressed as a mammal “ 1:50:05 at The Great North Run 2021.
The Rhinos and their plight are what drives me on in each challenge. While your kind support is my motivation. So please, please can you kindly sponsor me? Or buy my book?
Donations and book proceeds will go to Save the Rhino. Who are standing up against the illegal trade in rhino horn. Their conservation projects are many and far reaching, as they help local communities and rangers to guard against poaching. The Charity also funds direct Rhino care and are helping to tackle habitat loss, so your donations will provide an invaluable contribution to programmes throughout Africa and Asia. Protecting our animals for future generations is one of the greatest legacies we can leave behind, so lets join in the fight back for this awesome species. After all - How could you not love a Rhino?
