Story
Rex is registered as blind and he would love to raise money for Guide Dogs as he is aware as he gets older he may need to use a guide dog himself!
I, his mum am also a guide dog user, I think Rex has realised how much Guide Dogs can help people with visual impairments, since getting my Guide Dog I have been able to do a lot more with my children and this has been noticed by Rex!
Rex has seen his daddy take part in similar challenges over the last few years and has jumped at the chance of doing one suitable for his age, we were so proud of him when he said he wanted to raise money for Guide Dogs, I think he was inspired by the money children had raised from his primary school!
Rex wants to raise £2500 so he can choose a name for a guide dog himself.
Rex has optic atrophy and nystagmus inherited from me, his mum, they are quite rare eye conditions when combined so we don’t have a certain future for Rex in terms of his site, although it does look like he will unfortunately lose sight as he grows up! So we are determined for him to do as much as he can while he can see at his best! He never lets it stop him though of course, he is very self aware of his eye conditions and fully understands his abilities, he has so much determination for this challenge and we are so proud of him!
Clarty bairns a 3 km muddy obstacle course, so he is definitely going to get extremely muddy and hopefully have lots of fun whilst raising money with his daddy on the way!
Almost two million people in the UK are living with sight loss that has a significant impact on their daily lives. Of those, around 180,000 rarely leave their homes alone and lead lonely, isolated lives. Guide Dogs works for a world where people with sight loss are never left out of life, for a world where being blind or partially sighted is not what defines you. A world with enough support to make the challenges of sight loss no barrier to fulfilling hopes and dreams.
