Story
“My 85-year-old dad, Rev Arthur Parker, was diagnosed with vascular dementia in November 2019.
Due to his Dementia and vulnerability, I moved in with dad once the COVID-19 pandemic started to be his main carer. We decided it would be beneficial for his health to move more, turn of the TV, get fresh air and sunlight, so on the 23 March we completed two sets of two laps around his garden. Before the end of that week it had increased to four laps three times a day. Fast forward to the present day and we are now doing six laps four times a day, sometimes more. The overall total in the past 37 days is 798 laps which equals 36.19 miles. We want to do it all again maybe even more, but this time raising money for Alzheimer’s Society through 'Jog on Dementia'.
Since we’ve been doing this Dad has gained in confidence, become steadier on his feet, fitter, plus we've included saying prayers every set. Dementia had caused him to forget many of his prayers but he is now reciting 'The Lords Prayer' and 'The Lord is my Shepherd' with no prompting at all.
Dad is excited to raise as much as he can and we would love your support!
