Story
The impact of COVID-19 threatens to undo years of conservation
progress across the entire African continent. The collapse in tourism and the overall economy is already seriously affecting rural livelihoods and conservation efforts. There have been large scale redundancies of wildlife rangers, community liaison teams and other project staff, and there are already reports of an upsurge in bushmeat poaching, with fears of worse to come.
Tusk supports a network of more than 50 provenly effective conservation projects across the African continent. A donation to Tusk is the most effective way to make a real, targeted difference to the jobs and livelihoods of hundreds of thousands in more than 20 countries.
We have chosen in particular to support Tusk in their work with the African Painted Wolf (otherwise known as Wild Dogs). You can find out more about them here - https://www.tusk.org/projects/painted-dog-conservation/
There are now estimated to be only 6,500 African Painted Wolves left in the wild, compared to 300,000 in the early 20th century. Our challenge is to either dribble a hockey ball, or perform hockey keepy ups while walking 1m for each Painted Wolf left. A total of 6.5km to cover by either dribbling a hockey ball or walking (or jogging) while performing keepy ups on your stick.
Proceeds will go towards the Wildlife Ranger Challenge.
