Thanks for taking the time to  visit our Families JustGiving page which has been set up In  memory of Dennis, our dear dad/grandad/husband & friend who sadly lost his battle to asbestosis in December 2020.  

Like when anybody loses a loved one, it really hit our family very hard.  Dennis was such a strong man, who never deserved to suffer the way that he did. Asbestosis  is a very long, cruel illness that he physically suffered with for 5+ years from  his Initial diagnosis, which eventually left him bed ridden, fighting for his breath on a daily basis for 18 months, before finally Being at peace. 

Throughout his illness, there was very little help and support available. Those that could help, did, but ASCE  really came through and helped where others couldn’t, and I guess where it mattered most at the time.  

My brother James, and Nephews Joshua and Luca, will be doing a series of Memory walks, to honour Dennis.  All monies raised will be going to a very worthy charity, ASCE 

The boys will be starting off doing a couple of smaller warm up/training walks, leading up to the main event in September of this year.  (Dennis would have been celebrating his 81st birthday in September, it seemed fitting to do something to raise funds in his memory  at this time). 

Joshua who is aged 21 is an experienced outdoor adventurer, spending most of his spare time climbing hills and mountains all over the country, so I guess he will be  the one looking after his dad and younger brother. As a keen photographer, I’m sure there will be many a great picture to share as they progress. Luca, on the other hand, is aged just 14 and an absolute novice .  He is currently wearing his walking boots all day, everyday, to get used to them. James, is sort of somewhere in between the two. 

Their first warm up/training walk will be:

The Peak District National Park ~ Great Ridge Walk.  The distance is 6.5 miles with a 420M Ascent.

This will be followed up by doing the length of the Malvern Hills, which is a total distance of 9.3 miles with a 1000M Ascent.

The main event, that will take place over the weekend of the 10th September 2021, will be:

Snowdonia National Park ~ Mt Snowdon, via ‘Watkin & Rhys Ddu Path’, a total distance of 8.3 miles with a 1174M Ascent.  

They will then ‘Wild Camp’ in the Ogwen Valley after summiting Snowdon before their next climb of the weekend.

Staying within Snowdonia National Park ~  The Glyders (Glyder Fawr & Glyder Fach) via the ‘Devils Kitchen’. A total distance of 7.8 miles with a 855M Ascent. 

ASCE, unlike all the larger charities, receives very little funding, yet, the work that they do, and the support that they offer, is commendable.
