Story
My life since the start of university had been a struggle between eating too much chicken and broccoli, gaining nasty calluses and breaking acrylic nails on 20kg dumbbells. The squat rack has dominated my life, especially with the idea of competing in bikini body building on the horizon. The gym had become a surrogate boyfriend, one who was incredibly needy and required my presence 6 days a week, not that I minded. My Instagram was full of ‘fitness memes’ and girls with incredible 6 packs in lycra. Life was full of DOMS and happiness….until Tuesday 28th October 2014.
“Do you remember applying for the London Marathon?”, well I briefly remember crying at some inspirational stories last April (as you do) and deciding this was it I could definitely run 26.2miles. That thought quickly left my mind as soon as I was in the gym leg pressing 220KG and celebrating my quad/hamstring split with my gym buddy.
The inspirational stories have become a reality…I the girl who frowns upon anything that is not HITT cardio has been gifted a London Marathon place for 2015. Goodbye bicep supersets hello shin splints, carbs and chaffing.
The bodybuilding dreams are put on hold for another 6 months, all in aid of the wonderful Princess Alice Hospice. A place I know my family and I will treasure forever after they looked after Grandad so well. All I can hope is that Grandad is laughing at this ridiculous idea and is prepared to help when I’m out in the depths of winter running up hills covered in vaseline.
Please help me reach my target of £2000 for The Princess Alice Hospice:
£5 could pay for a ward patient's meal for one day
£50 could pay for a complementary therapy session for two patients. Reflexology, Aromatherapy and a massage session to ease the stress or anxiety.
£98 could pay for a visit from a community based nurse at a patients home. They help a patient and their family come to terms with the emotional, physical and practical distress.
Please help The Princess Alice Hospice liked they helped my family when we needed them most.
