Story
Forty years ago few children survived childhood leukemia. Now the survival rate is 80%.
Forty years ago only 46% of women diagnosed with breast cancer survived five years or more. Now that figure is also 80%.
Forty years ago 3% of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer survived five years or more. That figure is still 3%.
September 24th this year (8 days after the GNR) marks the 3 year anniversary of when we lost Grandad Ted to Pancreatic Cancer. Diagnosed in the December before it was already too late to save him, he underwent several operations to help make him more comfortable but sadly it was a battle he was never going to win...even though he fought for months longer than the doctors gave him.
At the age of 81, Grandad had had a 'good innings' but a very close friend of mine lost her mum to this same disease when she was just a little girl. So we're running this half marathon for two very important people, to help raise money towards improving those awful statistics above.
Training is resulting in a lot of blood, sweat and tears but run, walk or crawl, I'll be getting over that finishing line!!
Thank you to everyone for their donations, it means the world to me and everyone who knew Grandad Ted.
