Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro with Ben in December. It will be a huge physical and mental challenge, requiring dedication and commitment. But I will power on, get to the top and hopefully raise lots of money for WaterAid in the process. It will be no walk in the park and certainly not luxurious!

It is the highest mountain in Africa at 5,895 metres or 19,341 feet above sea level and will take 5 days to complete on the 'Marangu' route. It will involve a hell of a lot of walking and will be freezing at the top! I am funding the whole trip myself so any money you donate will be going straight to the charity (and not on my flights, climb, accommodation etc!)

WaterAid is a charity that I feel strongly about as investing in access to safe water, improved hygiene and sanitation is the single most effective way to tackle extreme poverty.

We all take water for granted far too easily in this country and studying Geography at GCSE, A-level and as a module in my degree really highlights the huge disparity in the world around us and those who can't just turn the tap on or run a bath (especially in Africa).

Clean water is essential for life but one in eight of the world's population do not have access to it.

It is amazing how wide reaching the positive impacts of improving water supplies are, most notably with health and education (which then creates an upward spiral of development for societies). And the water, sanitation and hygeine projects undertaken by WaterAid particularly impact upon women and children - they are the main collectors of water so it is often their lives that change the most dramatically.

I could go on and on about how clean water can save lives, improve their quality and ultimately reduces poverty so please feel free to ask me more about it, or you can read more here - http://www.wateraid.org/uk/what_we_do/impact_of_our_work/default.asp   and here - http://www.wateraid.org/uk/what_we_do/the_need/default.asp

I'd be really grateful for your support and and any donation you can give as it will make a huge difference.

I'm aiming for at least £589.50 which is 10p per metre!

Also I would like to thank Linklaters (one of the big law firms) who are sponsoring me after winning their 'Aspire' competition where I had to convince them in 250 words why I should win.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.
