Story
As most of you know, my beautiful mum was taken from us two years ago
by stomach cancer. Mum was one of the most selfless, caring individuals
I have ever had the honour of knowing. It's difficult to put into
words how caring and amazing mum was, but for those of you who knew her,
I'm sure you'll agree she was a wonderful person!
Her whole
life, Mum always put others first, loving her career as a midwife
(starting in the African Bush!), then latterly returning as a nurse to
the village where she was born, taking care of the elderly who had seen
her grow up.
Even with the pain and discomfort Mum went through during her chemotherapy, she was so brave and optimistic that with her family around her, she would beat this awful disease. Right up until the end, Mum was only ever concerned that we were going to be alright, telling us not to be scared, that even though we wouldn't be able see her, she would always be watching over us.
I've decided to run the London Marathon in honour of my incredible mum and to give back to the complete angels who were the Macmillan nurses that took such loving care of mum in her last few days.
As I am training for the Marathon, in the rain and cold, I think of mum, my rock, watching down on me, telling me to "Keep going Bec, you can do anything you set your mind to".
My life will never be the same and it's still so painful
knowing that I will never get chat and laugh with Mum, but i know that
when I cross that finish line, I will make mum proud that her little
girl has raised money for a charity that helped her live her last few
days with dignity.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for donating.
Becs xx
