My mum was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2014. I knew next to nothing about pancreatic cancer back then, but I read all about it and was dismayed to learn that it's one of the most difficult cancers to treat. Some cancers are much less understood than others, and I realised how important it is to support cancer research. Nearly all of us are touched by this disease in our lives, either because we become unwell ourselves, or see our family, friends and colleagues suffer.
I moved to Australia with my family for a 4-year posting in 2014 which made giving my mum and dad any practical help really, well, impractical! But I can run, so I'm running for the Institute of Cancer Research. The ICR is one of the world's most influential cancer charities. It was founded in 1909 in what is now the Royal Marsden Hospital, where my mum is being treated. ICR still cooperates closely with Royal Marsden.
Thank you very much for your donation to a really worthy cause.
