Story
My heart breaks for Afghanistan as the Taliban takes over the country following the withdrawal of US and UK troops.
Afghans are fleeing for their lives leaving many of them displaced, vulnerable and without vital services.
Afghan women are especially vulnerable given the Taliban’s oppressive policies towards them. Women are already hiding out and fearing for their lives*. Journalists, students and high profile women and minority groups are the most likely to be at risk.
For my birthday I’d like to ask you to kindly donate to support Afghan women as they are desperate for our help (whether you donate £3 instead of your morning coffee or £20, every donation is appreciated).
Women for Women International is a charity I have been supporting for many years operating in many different war-torn countries. It has supported over 120,000 Afghan women over the years with a holistic programme that supports them to make a sustainable income, advocate for their own rights and play a vital role in their community.
Given the charity’s history of working with community and religious leaders across the spectrum, of engaging men as well as women, the charity will continue to serve these participants at this critical time.
Their emergency response will also increase services for the women who are displaced and those that need the most support.
Supporting Afghan women now will help save their lives.
It will also be an important step to ensure that women are in the position to help shape the future of Afghanistan when it is needed most.
Thank you for your generosity x
