Story
Many months ago I signed up to do the 26.2 mile Great Glencoe trekathon Challenge which takes place on July 7th 2018, walking through some of Scotland's most stunning scenery before ending up near the foot of Ben Nevis at Fort William. I had only intended to do this as a way to get a little fitter but given that the date is just a day after the 30th anniversary of the Piper Alpha disaster in the North Sea when 167 men did not survive what is still the worst disaster in the Industry's history, I thought this would be a good opportunity to raise some much-needed funds (no matter how small an amount) to help with the upkeep of the Piper Alpha memorial garden in Aberdeen's Hazelhead Park. The oil and gas industry has been prevalent and influential throughout my life here in Aberdeen, as well as having been my career these last 30 years, so I'd like to give something back. Every pound counts, no matter how small your donation, and will definitely be a tonic in helping me grind out the miles.
