This is What a Feminist Runs Like!
I ran the 10k race on 02 October, faced with the unexpected challenge of record-breaking heat. And that wasn't the only record that got broken! Fuelled by feminism, Pendulum and good vegan food, I smashed my personal best to smithereens and finished the race in 50.58 minutes. Yay! I was the 9th woman to finish (out of 48) - not bad for someone who finished last at every sport at school. Keep reading to find out why I did this.
Women get a raw deal all around the world. Even in the UK, women have less access than men to power, money and leisure time. We're excluded from most positions of economic, political and religious authority. We get more than our fair share of housework, domestic violence and sexual assault. 72% of the government's budget cuts are coming out of women's pockets. Women get ignored, patronised, objectified and abused. It's not on. Fawcett is the leading charity for women, campaigning to ensure that our rights are respected, our needs are remembered and our voices are heard. We need more women running the world - that's why I'm running for Fawcett.
