The Message are a youth charity based in Manchester who work with some of the most economically and socially disadvantaged young people in the area. They really do make a difference to the young people in Manchester and put a lot of hard work into making a positive difference in the city.
You may have heard of the Urban Hero awards? This is an article that was published in the MEN. http://menmedia.co.uk/news/s/1124922_a_celebration_of_courage___
The Message run this event to celebrate the amazing young people who have overcome their backgrounds and become heroes in their communities.
The Message also run a project called Eden which provides long term support to neighbourhoods that are suffering from deprivation and poverty. A neighbourhood could qualify for Eden if it ranks in the top 5% of the government's national statistics for the most deprived areas. There are currently ten Eden projects in Greater Manchester. http://www.eden-network.org/Groups/66860/Eden_Network.aspx
The money raised from this swim will go to support the Message's Eden projects and help improve the lives of young people in Manchester.
Please, please, please donate to my cause. If not for the fact that I will be freezing my little self swimming an exhausting mile through the wild waves of Windermere then for the fact that the young people of Manchester deserve hope and a chance at life.
Thanks so much!
Rachel
