Story
My little brother is called Stanley David John and he is 6. Here are some things you should know about him:
He has a lovely smile.
His favourite thing is long bits of grass.
He likes to play on a trampoline.
He likes looking at the light from the sunshine.
He loves crisps (especially mine).
He likes to be outside.
Sometimes he gives lovely cuddles.
I'm his big sister and I love him.
These are the important things.
Stanley is different, but that isn't important, but you should know that he is autistic.
Autism is something in the brain and it means that Stanley doesn't understand things like other children. He can't speak, things that we wouldn't think about really frighten him and he needs someone with him all the time, and as a big sister I have to be really helpful, which I don't mind because this is my life, and I love Stanley.
Before Stanley went to Sunfield life was really difficult. Stanley would hurt himself a lot, sometimes he had to go to hospital because he had hurt himself badly, his other school were trying hard, but it was making him very poorly. Sometimes we didn't see his smile for weeks, sometimes I had to help mummy or daddy hold Stanley down because he was in big danger, this made me feel very sad, I used to wonder why this was happening to my little brother.
But now things are really different, since Stanley has been at Sunfield it's much better! Stanley has stopped hurting himself, he's started to smile again and gives us cuddles. This is because he's happy at school now, mum says that's because he's with people who understand him and he feels safe.
To be honest I don't really like running, but I'm going to do this because I'd like other children like my brother to be able to go to Sunfield, I'd like other brothers and sisters like me to be happy again.
I've got £20 in my money box that I'm going to give, and I'd like to raise another £50.
Thank you
Connie
