Story
I'll be swimming 1 mile in open water every day for 35 days straight. There are a fair few extra challenges about this from it being jellyfish season, to periods, to pollution and the water will not always be calm! I'm doing this because I want to highlight a particular charity for 35 days that needs more air time and funding and that's Animal Free Research UK.
AFR UK are just incredible, they are pioneering how research should be! I'm so passionate that more funding needs to be going their way that this is my second time fundraising for them.
I have a beautiful beagle companion, he's bright, he's cheeky and he's also a very gentle soul and this is one of the reasons why beagles are
used in medical research because they trust you and it is heart-breaking.
Animal Free Research UK say:
"We are driving ethical, evidence based research to fight, prevent and cure human diseases. And we’re doing it by investing in the most innovative research which focuses on humans without the use of animals. We are creating a future where animals are no longer used in medical research, where scientists focus on new techniques which are human relevant, giving better outcomes for everyone, people and animals alike. With your amazing support, we can advance human health and end the use of animals in medical research, forever. "
AFR UK has just started their summer school programme that gives early career scientists valuable laboratory experience in animal free medical research. It helps to show them the importance of human-relevant non animal science to tackle human diseases. Want to help support a new empowered team of animal free research scientists? Make a donation however small will be very appreciated, thank you so much.
