Story
I am 13 years old and in Year 9 in senior school. I go to Fitzwimarc in Rayleigh, as does my friend Amber-Leigh Mullins. In the early Summer this year, we went on a school trip to Spain. It was an activity holiday and Amber-Leigh wasn't feeling up to doing too much. She went to Southend Hospital the day after we came back for a blood test. She is really fearful of needles but luckily she let the nurses take some blood as they found out straight away that she was really not very well. She has Acute Lymphoblasitc Leukemia and has to go to the University College Hospital in London for most of her treatment. I think she is just the bravest - I'm sure I couldn't be. She lost her hair because of the chemotherapy treatment and she is lucky enough to have a wig made from real hair from the Little Princess Trust. It's reeaally lovely! A couple of years ago I had my hair cut and decided that it would be nice if it went to this charity instead of being swept up from the hairdresser's floor! Since then my hair has grown fairly quickly and it's now long enough to have another wig made from it. I am happy that a girl, like Amber-Leigh, will have the chance to have some nice hair. Rachael Bunn from Toppers Hair Salon in Rayleigh High Street is going to cut my hair on Friday, 14th October - for free! Thanks Rachael!! They have let me put a collection tin in the salon and also some posters in window and inside. Thank you. The Southend Echo are also supposed to be there, although it's not confirmed yet. No, they didn't come but a very nice man called Phil from the Essex Enquirer came and hopefully our story will be in next week's paper. My mum said she'll get in touch with them anyway.
