Story
Just one week to the marathon now, nearly there and hanging on in there rightly! Still shocked and amazed that I have come this far for a very good cause! If you havent already sponsored me please dig dip for the Foyle Hospice!
Hanging on in there folks, I passed the 22mile mark on the 12th March and on the climbdown now from the big runs, back down to 18 this weekend! whoop whoop! Nearly there, just three weeks now to the London Marathon. Thanks to everyone who has sponsored me and please keep the donations coming in to the Foyle Hospice.
So far so good folks, just reached the 18mile mark there at the weekend! it wasn't easy and I could hardly walk the next day but reaching that point felt just great! Thankyou to everyone who has sponsored me, the Foyle Hospice is such a worthwhile cause and I don't think there is a family in Derry who haven't been touched by the Foyle Hospice.
Thanks everyone for your more than generous sponsorship. At 15 miles now so just past halfway mark. Sore feet but high spirits!!!!!!
A big big massive thankyou to the children, staff and parents of St. John's Primary School, Bligh's Lane, Derry. Today we had a non-uniform day and we raised an amazing £1200!!!!! What a day! Thankyou again to all the children, their parents and staff of St. John's.
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. My name is Rachel Doherty, I am a 38 years old mother of four, primary school teacher and running fanatic (fanatic is my husband's term to describe my obsessive interest in running!).
I am running the London Marathon 2011 to raise money for the Foyle Hospice. The Foyle Hospice provides ongoing palliative care services for patients with cancer and other life limiting illnesses while supporting their families and loved ones.
Hospice care is based on a philosophy which recognises the need to treat each person with dignity, respect and compassion irrespective of their cultural or religious background. All hospice services are free of charge to patients and their families.
Now to the nitty gritty, it currently costs £1.8 million per year to run the Hospice, just 13% of this is provided by the local government. This means that the remainder of the costs - some £1.5million - have to be raised through the generosity of the local community. I hope that together we can help the hospice raise some of the money it needs to provide these essential services.
Please please please sponsor me to run the London Marathon 2011. I will keep you posted on my training, (good and bad) and if nothing else you'll get a laugh, wonder at how I will ever do it and feel good that you are helping a worthwhile cause!
