Story
Dear friends and family
This fundraising page was supposed to be a run-of-the-mill donation page but following a tragic change of circumstance I am now fundraising in honour and memory of my adored Dad, Ronnie James. Proud Welshman, rugby legend and absolute gentleman.
On a bit of whim (standard behaviour for me) last October I committed to train for the April 2017 London Marathon and was lucky to secure a place with the Cancer Research UK team, despite serious doubts about my ability to complete 26.2 miles. I chose Cancer Research UK as my chosen charity as a tribute to my lovely late friend Julie Barron-Hoult who passed away in 2011.
The gruelling training schedule was well underway when my wonderful Dad died suddenly on 9th March. Heartbroken and devastated I couldn't see how I could continue with this marathon nonsense and thought that withdrawing was my only option under the circumstances. I didn't feel I would have the heart to carry on, but being the daughter of Ronnie James I knew deep down that throwing in the towel wasn't really an option. At his bedside I had just watched my Dad fight for his life courageously for over 3 days. Compared to his outstanding bravery, running for a few hours is the least I can do in his honour. I know he will be with me every step of the way.
Dad I will make you proud. You will always be my hero. I love you and miss you desperately.
