Story
Not training for a marathon is one thing, but not taking the opportunity to raise some money for charity would be unacceptable!
Hospiscare is a local hospice charity for my home area- Lympstone, Exmouth, Exeter and the rest of Mid and East Devon. 2022 is their 40th anniversary and so have provided care to many many people living with life limited illnesses and supported their families during that time. In order to continue providing such compassionate end of life care, donations are always needed.
26.2 miles ..surely it's possible to raise at least £1per mile. Or maybe £1 = $1 a km! i.e £420 :-)
Obviously if you can spare £1or more please do donate but if me heading out to Chicago to at least start a marathon makes you smile then well that can be a success too. Hospiscare would probably prefer cash though ;-)
Back in January, I was lucky to get a public ballot place for the Chicago marathon. This will be the 3rd World Marathon Major I've taken part in...there are 6.... (and no Newport wasn't one of them :-))
Whilst one day I might embrace running/jogging/exercise as a regular consistent thing to do...2022 has not been the year for that :-) I appreciate I now have form for taking part in half marathons/marathons with a less conventional approach to training, however this year's zero running/exercise approach is exceptional/stupid even for me! So I was about to defer the place ..then I realised who knows what next year or even tomorrow may bring and so on the 20th September I booked my flight to Chicago. I don't know what state physically and/or financially I'll be in next year so the time is now :-)
I have foot pain/discomfort whilst sat down typing this so I really have no idea how it will go on Sunday 9th October in Chicago. They also sweep everyone off the road after 6 hr 30 minutes! Anyway, I'll start and right now I believe I'll finish but time will tell...
As ever there is an app "ChiMarathon" - 2022 Bank of America Chicago Marthon App. So I believe you can follow my progress on that or at least see whether I finish! Bib number: 43208
In the meantime..my marathon shuffle around Lympstone and Exmouth is still available on YouTube :-)
