<p><span>England is an amazing place when it comes to wildlife. We are </span><span>fortunate enough to be able to experience an astounding variety of species and habitats of international importance right on our doorstep.</span></p><p><span style="color: #262626;">It also plays host to:</span><span></span></p><p><span style="color: #262626;">• 31,368km of breath-taking coastline and outstanding marine environment. <br/>• Over 10 hectares of ancient woodland.<br/>• The most endangered wild flowers, such as the Ghost Orchid that lives underground, and the Helleborine.<br/>• The largest array of migrating birds, and new visitors like spoonbills<br/>• The most successful recovered bird species: like curlews and white stork<br/></span><span>• Newly reintroduced animal species – beaver<br/></span></p><p><span>RSPB England also looks after 147 </span><span><a href="http://www.rspb.org.uk/reserves" title="RSPB nature reserves"><span style="color: #1d67be;">nature reserves</span></a> that total more than </span><span>88,358 hectares and make up almost half of RSPB’s total UK land holding. They </span><span>are managed mainly to give nature a home, but they are also fantastic places to </span><span>explore and reconnect with nature and are open to the public to do so.</span></p><p><span style="color: rgb(38, 38, 38);background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);float: none;">As pictured, our </span><span style="color: rgb(38, 38, 38);background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);float: none;">beloved hedgehogs are in decline and are now listed as a ‘vulnerable’ species. Unbelievably w</span><span style="color: rgb(38, 38, 38);background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);float: none;">e have lost over half our hedgehogs from our countryside since the millennium</span><br style="color: rgb(38, 38, 38);background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);"/><span style="color: rgb(38, 38, 38);background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);float: none;">and have lost a third from our towns and cities. This is due to a combination </span><span style="color: rgb(38, 38, 38);background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);float: none;">of factors such as habitat loss and/or fragmentation, road kill, lack of food </span><span style="color: rgb(38, 38, 38);background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);float: none;">due to chemical use (e.g. pesticides or fertilisers) on land or even poisoning </span><span style="color: rgb(38, 38, 38);background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);float: none;">from the chemical use. We must do more to step up for nature!</span><!--EndFragment--><br/><br/>Every pound counts!</p>
