Story
My Dad was one of the founding members of Cycle the Solway.
The ride began as a team building event but slowly grew to an event with a purpose, to raise as much money as possible for Eden Valley Hospice.
My Dad, thoroughly enjoyed setting the routes and I have fond memories of him striking off parts of his map with a little red pencil. His main wish was to encourage as many people to get out on their bikes, enjoy the countryside and have a go.
He wanted people to see a different side to Cumbria and was extremely proud of his border heritage.
Dad completed the organisers 100k ride the week before this year's Cycle the Solway and was raring to go to marshall the official event on the 12th of July.
Sadly Dad never made it and tragically died on the 10th of July of a heart attack whilst out on a ride with friends through his beloved borderlands.
We shall miss him terribly, but feel that it would be a fitting tribute to him to raise as much money as possible for Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw the Children's hospice.
Dad unfortunately didn't get to collect his sponsorship money but it would be wonderful if you could spare a couple of pounds in his name to a worthy cause.
Thanks so much for your generosity and support.
Love
Rachael
