Story
This year myself, my daughter and 5 of my lovely colleagues from work are entering the Race For Life. Here are my own personal reasons for wanting to participate.
In 2001 my mum was diagnosed with Breast Cancer (just has her mum had before her). She very couragously underwent a mastectomy followed by a course of Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy threatment. She very rarely let anyone see the tears but we knew they were there, every day she would smile and tell us she was ok.
In 2002, on the day of my Engagement Party mum was told she could expect to live another 2 years and mum being mum tried to keep it to herself so that I could have a lovely evening but we managed to coax it out of her and from that day on we enjoyed every minute we could. We had fun holidays with my fiance and children and spent many an evening laughing and having fun.
Mums health deteriated and the week of my wedding she was taken into hospital but her true guts and determination see her out in time for my big day. Nothing or no-one would have stopped her being there. She was re-admitted the next day.
3 months on we lost my lovely mum, that was 8 years ago this year and there's not a day goes by when I don't think of her. She was my mum, my best friend and my inspiration. I miss you mum x
There is also another reason why this year a group of us are doing this together. At work I have a lovely Assistant Manager who has just started a course of chemo after having a tumour removed from her breast. Kim is a tough cookie and I know she will fight this with everything she has. We are all there for you Kim.
