WE WIN!
I was diagnosed with Stage 1 (early) breast cancer on 4th March 2013; I underwent surgery (lumpectomy) twice and had three cycles of EC at the Royal Marsden in Sutton, followed by three of "Taxol", to prevent recurrence.
I might have a double mastectomy in the near future (but I am no Angelina Jolie!), again to prevent recurrence :)
I consider myself lucky to be given this "extra time".
I want to campaign to raise awareness among women of how deceitful and insidious breast cancer can be.
I will make sure that more and more women follow their instinct as I did.
But most of all I want to campaign to tell people –men and women- to not give in to fear, ever. They say that half the battle against this illness is in the mind.
If it is so, my cancer never had a chance.
I am alive here and now, playing with my children, breathing in this beautiful Spring, laughing with my beloved friends, working shoulder to shoulder with my dear colleagues. And I really want more people, no matter how severe their condition, to feel like that.
I must follow my first instinct, which made me exclaim on the very day I was diagnosed, soon after the diagnosis, “if I survive this, I am going to campaign to raise awareness”. I thought that I would do so once my tribulations were over.
However, I feel that I have the strength and the motivation already, so I have decided to take part in the Race for Life which will take place in Epsom at the end of June.
