Friends for Life
I met my friends Annie and Bodil in 1987 when we'd all just turned 17. That summer we took part in a month long Quaker youth trip. It was a great experience, not least because of forging close friendships. We said they would last for life, like teenagers do, but in this case we were right.
Sadly Annie died this year, from cancer, just after her 42nd birthday. She was always the oldest of us three (by a matter of months) but Bodil and I will get older now without her. We learned a lot from Annie about courage and faith and finding joy in life. She was a wonderful person and a loyal friend. We miss her and we remember her every day.
We're doing the Race for Life this year with Annie's young daughters Kate and Isabel. So we'll be walking not running, joining them at their pace. It's still a challenge though: the challenge of facing the loss of our friend and their mother whilst bringing joy to the event as Annie would have.
We hope you'll sponsor us to help raise some money to help other people's friends and other daughter's mothers survive cancer.
