Story
My name is Claire I am an Accident and Emergency Sister at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. I am currently in isolation and will be for the next few weeks due to a serious underlying health condition. My amazing work family along with every other healthcare professional in the country are literally going through what can only be described as a living nightmare. The decision to remain at home was not one that I took easily. As a team we had been through many trying situations together, and I wanted to continue to be that person that mucks in and gets on with whatever is thrown at them, I wanted to continue to be the go to person for advice and most importantly I wanted to be the shoulder to cry on.
The last couple of weeks for the team have been trying. Along with fighting this awful virus, they have undertaken the challenge of creating a second emergency department for patients that do not display symptoms of Covid-19. The general public have been beyond generous with their donations of food, letters and cards of gratitude and donations of personal protective equipment. Along the way the team have obtained a well-being room where they can go for breaks and a little time out when needed. This got me thinking. What about when all of this is over? This amazing team are going to be left broken to return to normal business.
Not being someone that shy's away from a challenge I have arranged to Wing Walk with Skymax on top of a 1940s Boeing Stearman biplane at a height of 700ft travelling at a speed of 135mph. My aim is to obtain as much sponsorship for this ludicrous challenge as possible to ensure those members of staff that have supported everyone through this crisis can be supported as they face their own crisis
