Story
I started running back in 2015, as a way of improving my overall fitness, but more importantly it improved my mental health.
My friend Scotty (RAF Engineer) was already down to run in this event ended up getting injured on a training run.
In true RAF style he asked if I'd step up and take on the 'baton' of running in this famous event. I agreed to do it and here I am (Helping another member of my RAF Family). Also my Wg Cdr had ran it a few years earlier, if he could do it, then so could I.
My training commenced, or so I thought, because then the Pandemic came along and spoilt everything, well maybe not. I deployed and started training for Virgin London Marathon. You need slightly mad to train in +35 degrees, even madder when you encourage another marathon runner that this is a good idea (Helping my RAF Family). When I got back I ran the Virtual London Marathon, 8 laps of a 5km route and 1 lap of a 3km route (Told you I was slightly mad).
Fast forward to 2021 - Guess what I'm doing now. September Blackpool Festival of Running (10km & Half Marathon), October London and 2 weeks later Liverpool Rock 'n' Roll Marathon all for RAFA. Expect this time I'll have the RAFA running flag fluttering behind me.
Why I am doing this...
Well, RAFA and IBCC have supported me and my family through some difficult times and it's only right that I support them back, because I know that without the support that we received, another RAF person/family may not get the support that they vitally need.
