Stop Hate UK is a charity that started in 1995 in response and service for victims of racial discrimination and harassment after Stephen Lawrence was murdered in 1993. it Is now reformed to be a service that supports all victims of discrimination in the community, whether that be race, disability or sexuality. They help tackle hate crimes and discrimination by providing a toolkit to improve local responses to hate crime. They also run a 24/7 helpline where individuals can turn to them for support or to report hate crimes as an alternative to the police. They also run local projects for the community including youth engagement, research and reporting centres.
"In 1993 when Stephen Lawrence was murdered, my dad was a young black man in his 20s who was also racially abused and discriminated. As a young girl, he would tell me the stories of some of the horrors he, my family and friends would witness. It saddens me today that over 27 years later, there are still inequalities and discrimination in our communities. From 2019 -2020 there was 105,090 reported hate crimes in the UK and many more that go unreported. I think it would be amazing to fundraise and represent a charity that supports everyone regardless of who they are. We all deserve to feel safe and to live freely in a world where there is no hate or inequalities." - Amber Bell
