Story
We have been working diligently to support schools and children in South Luangwa throughout the Covid pandemic.
The loss of critical revenue from tourism have left many desperate, with no clear end in sight. We continue to do our small part by supporting schools, children and families in South Luangwa, but we need your help to do it.
Having also lost nearly all of our unrestricted funding, we are finding it increasingly challenging to support emergency projects. One major example is mattresses for boarding schools. A government directive has stated that children should now each have their own mattress (instead of sharing), but this has meant children need to provide their own, or risk sleeping on the floor. We desperately need to source funding to cover this, as well as to help support all of our other local projects.
In one month alone we have:
- Paid $367 to have electricity reconnected at Uyoba Primary School, a rural school that without power have had no access to clean running water.
- Spent $60 on new rain jackets for watchmen to keep them dry during rainy season.
- Spent $138 on supporting Malabo Youth Football club so that they could import new football boots and footballs into the country. With no positive sporting outlets for kids throughout 2020 due to Covid, this support is more important than ever right now.
- Spent $285 on new lighting and CCTV to help protect craft spaces in a time of increasing poverty.
- Spent $567 on new boots, new overalls, new hats, tools, phone protectors and power banks for registration devices, for our new eco-stove team, who are having such a positive impact in local households.
- Spent $1,067 on hygiene products - buckets, stands, disinfectant, soap and hand wash - for 15 local schools
- Spent $500 in additional expenses for transport to assist Sponsorship.
In previous years we could rely on the kind donations we received from our Member Lodges, but in these current times we receive little to no tourism funding. Every small donation can have a huge impact, both on our charity, and more importantly on the lives of those we serve.
Thank you so much for your support.
