Story
Thank you.
Whilst out running on Saturday 7th November I was hit by a motorcycle and sustained a mild head injury, a fractured pelvis, a fractured cervical spine, a chest injury and multiple soft tissue contusions and abrasions.
My pelvis has been fixated and my C-spine decompressed and stabilised. My contusions and abrasions are recovering slowly. I have cervical radiculopathy from damage to the nerve roots leaving the spine. The pain associated with the nerve damage is quite unbearable at times.
I have been discharged from the hospital on crutches and can walk a few meters (equivalent to an EDSS 6.5 if I had MS). I originally set myself a goal of walking at least 500m without crutches (equivalent to an EDSS 4.0 if I had MS) within 4 weeks to raise money for Dr Ruth Dobson and Dr Angray Kang so that they can complete their COVID-19 Multiple Sclerosis Antibody Study as soon as possible.
However, I achieved and exceeded this goal on Day 5 of rehab. I have therefore set my new challenge or target to be able to walk 5 km by the end of December. This may be beyond what I can achieve, but I will still make the effort and give it a go.
Not only will your donation be supporting MS research it will also motivate me to hopefully make a rapid physical recovery.
