Story
This year our group of scientists from the Oxford Platt Lab and the UCL Rahim Lab will be challenging ourselves to complete 70 miles in 2 days by bike, foot, canoe and stand up paddle board! We will leave by bike from the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Oxford on October 5th and hopefully arrive by paddle board at the Niemann Pick UK family conference in Wyboston Lakes in Bedfordshire.
The scientists are Fran Platt, Dave Smith, Kerri Wallom, Ahad Rahim, Hemanth Nelvagal, Amy Geard, Danielle Taylor-Te Vruchte, Claire Smith, Yuzhe Weng, Qiaochu Zhang, Qianqian Song, Olive Jung, Dawn Shepherd, Sebile Kilavuz, Hsin Chen, Reuben Bush and Maria Fernandez-Suarez. Our loyal support team includes Nick Platt, David Priestman and Alan Crowder.
Niemann-Pick is a rare, devastating neurodegenerative disease that affects mostly children but also adults. Currently there is no cure and very sadly, people affected with this disease have a short life expectancy.
