We help blind and partially sighted people to break down the barriers of sight loss

Story

Watching the Marathon on TV last year I somehow got caught up in the idea of doing it too. How hard can it be!

It also triggered a need in me to get involved with the RNIB, something I've been meaning to do for a long time.

At the age of seven I lost almost all the sight in one eye following an accident. Over the years I've had several operations to correct a squint, remove the lens, remove a cataract and most recently to reattach the retina.

I’m lucky that I have been able to lead a relatively normal life despite being partially-sighted, but I’ve always been very aware how the outcome could have been very different – and how I am more vulnerable to total sight loss. As such, I feel I can appreciate what RNIB does and the difference that the charity’s support can make. One day I may need the help of the RNIB myself, and in the meantime, I would like to be able to contribute to a cause that I can truly relate to.
