ICS Volunteer Restless Development · 31 December 2020 ·
Restless Development is championing a growing movement, led by a new generation that is more active, more connected and more able to lead the change needed than ever before. Our vision is that young people everywhere are able to demand and deliver a just and sustainable world. In the past 30 years our network of young volunteers has grown to over 17,000 people worldwide. They have trained, inspired and helped more than seven million children, young people, and community members in Africa, South Asia and the UK.
These are just some of the reasons I have chosen to take part in the International Citizen Service (ICS) programme through Restless Development. ICS is a 90% government funded programme that allows volunteers to travel to the communities that have specifically asked for our country's help. It also aims to inspire young people to be these volunteers, to make a difference in these developing communities. The other 10% of this programme is funded by fundraising. The money I raise will be going back into the ICS programme; ensuring the certainty that in the future, volunteers will be able to go and help the people who need it most! This is most vital, as without the help of ICS projects these disadvantaged communities would be without basic necessities that many of us take for granted here. Any contribution from you will make the biggest difference to the disadvantaged communities who haven't been as fortunate as us in Western society.
I will be departing for Uganda in the week beginning the 12th of February for 3 months, volunteering in projects that teach sexual health, sanitation and employability skills to youths in predominantly rural areas. As a lot of you know, this is something I am incredibly passionate about and I won't be able to do this without your support! Thank you all in advance x
