Story
I'm running the Edinburgh Marathon at the end of May to raise money for the CF trust.
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic condition which causes sticky mucus to build up in the lungs and digestive system. It affects more than 10,800 people in the UK. One in 25 of us carries the faulty gene that causes it, usually without knowing.
I've chosen to run the marathon in support of CF Trust as it's something that's been a part of my life since very early childhood. My dad works as a paediatrician in Bristol specialising in the care of children with CF. On visits to the hospital with my dad, I met a few of his patients and their families. I was struck by the bravery of these children, as well as the care, compassion & resilience of their families. Babies can be diagnosed with CF on the day they are born, and it's a condition that affects them for their whole lives - there is no cure. 10 years ago, the life expectancy for someone born with CF was 38 years. It is now over 50, thanks in part to the amazing work done by the CF Trust.
I'm aiming to raise £750 for this incredible cause to go towards their life-saving research. Thank you so much to everyone who's taken the time to read this, and for the donations & support.
