Story
In memory of my Mum who died aged only 70 from a form of dementia last November I am aiming to walk 1500 miles before the year is out. That’s Lands End to John O’Groats (the long way), plus another 500 miles!
Having raised £1000 for Kate’s Home Nursing who with compassion and kindness picked us up when we were at our lowest, I am now raising money for Alzheimer’s Research UK. Alzheimer’s and dementia are cruel diseases, tearing apart both the life of the person they affect and the lives of their families.
With such a complicated and multi-faceted set of diseases, and with more people living to old age, we need more research now to try and find ways to slow its progression, reduce suffering, and to help people keep hold of the people they love for longer.
My mileage will be calculated from walks outside and will not include steps added up at home or in the office. This makes my mission a bit more of a challenge, fitting it in around my jobs and my family commitments.
Mum loved walking and as I am the same size shoe size as she was I am doing this while wearing her walking boots so that she can come along for the ride! I know she would have enjoyed the challenge!
