I was diagnosed with prostate cancer back in 2019 but....I was quite lucky and the reason for this was because I noticed symptoms very early on and sought advice from my doctor many years before. My symptoms were the usual just needing to go to the loo more often. There is no history of Prostate cancer in my family but I have always been concious of my general health.

I was diagnosed with low to medium risk and I still had very similar symptoms from the years before, the only indicator was that my psa levels were gradually increasing, not by much but by enough to raise concern.

I was fortunate to have had treatment in November 2020 and remain indebted to the consultant who was monitoring me and to the entire team at The Stokes Centre in Guildford who cared for me during my treatment and continue with regular follow ups even now. I still have medication to help with the side effects of my treatment but I am so grateful that it was caught in good time to give me a second chance. Had I not been diagnosed my cancer may well have spread by now and been much more serious. Though I'm not under any illusions that it might happen again I will continue to have regular psa tests long after I've been fully discharged but if there was a more accurate or improved way of diagnosing prostate cancer then the more funding available for research, the better.
