Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I love swimming, I’ve started doing it a lot more this year which has made me love it even more. I started watching Channel 4’s Sink or Swim this week which made me cry and made me want to swim the channel.
Reality check, there is absolutely no way I am going to be swimming the actual channel. I can’t swim front crawl without nearly suffocating, I can’t swim in the sea and I’m not a great fan of jelly fish or ferries.
In the pool though, I can do that. I would like a challenge for the rest of the year. When I looked into it, it seemed a bit too easy though- it would actually be less lengths per week than I have been swimming all summer.
So, starting on 9th September (my birthday!) until 15th December, I’m going to swim the channel and back again. That’s 44 miles in 14 weeks , or 2836 lengths of my local swimming pool or, assuming I keep a steady progress, just over 200 lengths a week.
And the one way I know I will actually achieve this is to raise some money along the way. My dad died 2 years ago following a too late diagnosis of oesophageal cancer; for a long time before his diagnosis he thought he had heartburn and indigestion. It was a horrible time for him, my mum, us all. And now we have to carry on without him which is all quite crap. Heartburn Uk raises awareness of the importance of getting early symptoms investigated which can make all the difference for treatment options. If you could donate just a few pounds, it would make a difference to me, to Heartburn Uk and hopefully, maybe to people with this cruel cancer.
