My first wife Pat died in 2003 from emphysema, brought on by a condition called alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency.  Few have heard of the condition yet it affects 1 in 30 people, some of those affected even die in their early 20's.  Pat was helped enormously at the time by the "Breathe Easy" group, run by the British Lung Foundation, so I decided that I should do something in her memory.
