Story
I have been running quite a bit in the last few years, mainly 10K races and last year I was invited to join a team and enter the Lakeland 50, and without too much thought, I did! It then transpired this is not a relay race and comprises a 50 mile race across the Lake District. Training has been going well and I completed my first marathon (Manchester) at the end of April and my first Ultra Marathon (35 miles) at the end of May. The date for the Lakeland 50 is 27 July 2013.
For those not already aware Dad was diagnosed with Parkinson’s last year. Having got over the initial shock Dad has dealt with his illness with a positive attitude and carried on as best he can. Parkinson’s not only puts a strain on the sufferer but like many diseases, it places a high level of strain on those closest to Dad.
As yet doctors still don't understand why people get Parkinson's and there is no treatment that can stop the development of the condition.
Parkinson’s UK, is a leading charity specialising in research for a cure and are closer than ever to achieving this goal. The charity also provides specialist nurses, support through its various networks and staff to provide information and training in every aspect of Parkinson’s.
I really appreciate these are tough times on the fundraising circuit but if you could spare anything, we would be most grateful!
