Story
This is the fourth time I have taken part in the half marathon which is run through the streets of Birmingham each October. I want to raise money for Amani Children's Home which works to transform the lives of children rescued from the streets of Moshi in Tanzania - one of the world's poorest countries.
I had the privilege of visiting Amani with a group from Christ Church in September 2015 and was hugely impressed by the care and professionalism of the staff. They give these young people an education and training with the aim of breaking the cycle of poverty and family breakdown. A sign of this commitment is that they achieve a 100% pass rate in the national primary school exams, despite the fact that many of the children are on a double speed programme to make up for lost years of schooling.
I finished the race in a time of 2 hours 13 minutes. The first half was fairly fast (by my standards) but a problem that had occurred during the later stages of training made the second half slower and more painful. It was a great relief to get over the finish line.
You can still make a contribution - however large or small - and help Amani to continue to make a difference.
