Story
Anyone who knew my dad knew that from the time he was diagnosed he became a true fighter. My Dad was unbelievable, he was so positive through everything. Dad never complained no matter what he had to go through, and plenty of times he would have been more than justified to do so.
Dad was Diagnosed with Mantle Cell Non-hodgkins Lyphoma which is one of he rarest of the Non Hogkins Lymphomas at around 6% of the patients diagnosed.
Being diagnosed was as much mentally challenging as it was physically for Dad, as I am sure it is for all cancer patients, this is why Ken chose this cycle to do in memory of my wonderful dad, its both physically and mentally challenging. The Cycle will take Ken 5 days to complete with an average of 8 hrs per day in the saddle.
We have decided to do this for the Delete Blood Cancer charity to 1.Raise awareness of Blood Cancers
2. Raise awareness of the importance of becoming a Stem Cell donor
Why Register:
Every 20 mins someone in the UK is diagnosed with a blood cancer. That's, on average 72 people per day in the UK alone. 2000 people per year need a donor and only 50% of them will find a suitable match. :(
As well as a donation what I would really love and greatly appreciate is for you to become a registered blood stem cell donor on the donor website and help increase the chances of someone finding a suitable match. Remember that "someone" is somebodies brother, sister mother or....Dad. Please Please Please take the time to click on this link below and register:
When you register please upload a selfie with your swab kit to Facebook and tag BioHorizons UK & Ireland to show your support.
