No blisters this year, but a mechanical failure part way through his ride prevented Peter doing as many laps as he'd planned. The chain went slack and jumped off its cogs, which wasn't easy to fix with no tools and the kid-safe chain guard designed to keep small fingers away from it... I managed to hook it back on, but after it did it for the third time in a hundred yards we had to admit defeat and he pushed the bike round the rest of that lap. We couldn't find anyone with suitable spanners to fix it at the park, so had to leave it at that.
However, according to the GPS tracker app on my phone, the laps were longer that we'd expected so he had still completed around the 3 miles he'd been aiming for. And he still had the energy to run around in the play area afterwards!

Hope the weather improves soon, or parts of the course will be very muddy on Sunday!

"Last year I did four laps because I was four years old, so this year I'm going to do five laps because I'm five years old."
Once again, Peter is taking part in the Southend Junior Bikeathon in aid of leukaemia research. We lost his mummy, Margaret, to the disease two years ago and he wants to help doctors to be able to cure any other children's parents that get poorly with it.
He really enjoyed the ride last year, and is looking forward to doing it again. Please support and encourage him as he raises much-needed money for this area of medical research.
