Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, on behalf of the Encephalitis Society.
On Monday 20th July, I'm taking part in the Etap du Tour. Every year, the organisers of the Tour de France open one stage to around 10,000 amateurs. This year it will be the penultimate stage - 170 km from Montelimar to Mont Ventoux, with the last 22km a gruelling climb to the top of the Giant of the Provence, inevitably where this year's Tour will be decided.
I aim to complete the race in 8 hrs - 6 for the 150km to the bottom of Ventoux and 2 to get to the top and would like to use this, my biggest cycling challenge yet, to raise money for the Encephalitis Society.
Encephalitis is an inflamation of the brain, the big bad brother of meningitis. Our son Yannick suffered from it as a 2-year-old and was hospilatised for 6 weeks. He was very lucky and made a full recovery. However, many patients don't and the Society supports them and their loved ones and raises awareness of this still little understood disease. Their help was of invaluable support to us I'm pleased to thank them in this way.
Last year, you helped me raise more than £ 500 and I'd love to better that, in line with the challenge. Please support me again, as it will help me complete those tough final 5 kms, looking at the daunting view above.
