Story
My father was diagnosed with MS shortly before I was born. He was fit, healthy and 26 years old. Despite being amazingly cared for, benefitting from remarkable nursing and treatment, he lost his battle with the disease in 2002 when I was 19. This challenge is for him.
1,000 miles in a year – starting on May 4th 2020 I set myself the target of running 1,000 miles in a year. That’s 2.7 miles a day, every day, for a year.
100 miles in a week – starting on April 17th I will be attempting to run 100 miles in a week, which is an average of 14.2 miles a day, or equivalent to running 4 marathons in 7 days.
www.Shift.ms is the social network for people with MS (MSers) and supports thousands of newly diagnosed MSers globally to make sense of MS as soon as possible after diagnosis. The Shift.ms membership is growing and so are the expectations of our members, who need 24 hours a day, 7 days a week access to resources and support in the most simple and intuitive way.
There have been many requests from members for Shift.ms to launch a mobile app in addition to the website, but the charity has not been able to deliver this in a way that was cost effective and sustainable. It is now essential that shift.ms take this next step on our journey, and with your donations they plan to take the core elements of www.Shift.ms and migrate the web service into an iOS and Android app, so it can reach and help many more people to manage their MS and lead healthy and productive lives. Funds raised from this challenge will allow Shift.ms to begin work on the app build.
I know the support this charity provide to MSers is material, and I feel strongly about supporting it myself, so I pledge to match every £1 raised, up to £5,000.
