Story
On Sunday 24th October, I am running the Guernsey marathon. This event is not about me, however. My race is to honour the memory of Stevie Luxon, who tragically succumbed to mental health difficulties earlier this year. When Stevie and I were together her creative spirit, beauty, infectious laugh and smile lit up my life over a number of years. She also taught me about the complexities and difficulties that sufferers of mental health conditions face on a daily basis.
I am running the marathon to raise awareness of this crucially important topic of discussion and funds for Guernsey Mind, a charity whose work facilitates a community based network within Guernsey to make talking about mental illness that bit less daunting and more manageable. I am hoping to raise £3,450 by running the marathon in a time of 3 hours and 45 minutes, which for me would be a significant improvement on my previous personal best, which has never beaten the 4 hour mark.
Please give generously to enable Guernsey Mind to improve their services to the island, which will save lives.
Thanks so much and see you at the finish line!
Peter
